WINFIELD | As part of the town’s preventative maintenance plan, the culverts that drain storm water need to be kept clear, according to members of the Winfield Storm Water Board.
At the end of the month, the municipality will bring in a street sweeper for about a week from Brown Equipment in Fort Wayne to clear out the culverts. Part of the sewer system, the culverts get blocked with soil and debris, causing water to back up on lawns and other areas.
The storm water board also is seeking to buy a used street sweeper that the street department can work with in the future. The equipment from Fort Wayne will be “test driven” to see if it meets the town’s needs and budget, said Joshua Mahler, a member of the storm water board.
“It’s now the Sewer Board turn to pay for a street sweeper,” said Jim Simmons, a member of the storm water board and the Winfield Town Council. “We’re looking at our budget.”
The board approved spending up to $30,000 for a used street sweeper at its Sept. 24 meeting.
