WINFIELD | The Winfield Town Council adopted an amended ordinance this week requiring tradesmen to be registered and licensed to do work in the town.
The licensing requirements do not apply to contractors already registered with Winfield for the 2013 calendar year on or before March 26. All contractors must meet all requirements beginning Jan. 1, 2014.
Under the ordinance, contractors must meet the following requirements to do work in residential, commercial or industrial settings in Winfield:
• Pass a test in their respective trade from any Lake County governmental unit, as proof of their licensure in their trade, unless there is no testing for that trade.
• Complete an application for and obtain registration with the town — following licensing — which could include passing a test in the trade.
• Have a valid, active status registration on file at the town office before beginning any work.
These requirements include, but aren’t limited to, contracts or agreements, written or oral, for installation or repairing of electrical, plumbing or sanitation installations; wires, pipes, conductors or fixtures; carpentry, masonry, concrete, sheet metal or other sheet goods; plaster or drywalling; earth moving or grading; heating, air-conditioning or ventilation equipment.
