MICHIGAN CITY | Authorities on Thursday found the body of the second of two South Bend boys who went missing off a Michigan City beach Sunday.
The body of 17-year-old Lorenzo Greer was found in Lake Michigan about two miles east of the Washington Park pier and about one-quarter mile off the beach, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources said.
A man on a personal watercraft spotted Greer's floating body and alerted authorities, said Gene Davis, a DNR conservation officer.
An off-duty LaPorte County sheriff's officer traveled by personal watercraft to the body and waited there while the DNR came to the scene, Davis said.
The body of the other boy, 14-year-old Scott Hoover, was found Tuesday morning.
The two boys were swimming with Hoover's father and brother Sunday afternoon when they went missing.
Strong winds and riptides created unsafe swimming conditions when the boys went missing and hampered rescue and recovery efforts in the days after the two were last seen.
Greer and Hoover were swimming about 200 feet from the Washington Park beach when they drifted toward the lighthouse pier, officials said.
Hoover's father and a lifeguard tried to swim toward the pier but were unsuccessful. One officer suffered minor injuries in the Sunday night search.
