LAPORTE | A fallen icicle ruptured a gas line in LaPorte on Thursday, forcing a downtown law office to close.
NIPSCO was called to Newby, Lewis, Kaminski and Jones in the 900 block of Lincolnway about 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
Staff members began smelling gas and were asked to leave until Friday afternoon.
LaPorte Assistant Fire Chief Dino Smith said an icicle on the two-story building punctured the gas line where it fastened to a meter.
He said the gas was immediately shut off until the permanent repair was made the following morning. The law office opened back up about noon on Friday. - By Stan Maddux, Times Correspondent
