Authorities say a man fleeing police from LaPorte to Michigan City ran drivers off the road, then forced his way into a stranger's home where he was captured at gunpoint.
Christopher Kelley, 25, of LaPorte was charged with resisting law enforcement and residential entry, both felonies.
LaPorte County Sheriff's Department officials said the chase began about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday when an officer tried stopping the suspect for tailgating and not wearing a seat belt.
At one point, the chase on Johnson Road reached speeds of about 90 miles per hour as, police allege, Kelley often veered into the opposite lane of the winding two lane main artery between the two cities.
Deputy Slawek Czupryna had to quickly back into a driveway to avoid the fast moving Kelley in the opposite lane, authorities said.
In Michigan City, Kelley steered around stop sticks placed into the road then crossed U.S. 421 before turning onto Southwind Drive.
His vehicle was traveling slowly when he bailed out and forced open a door to an apartment occupied by a man he didn't know.
Officers stormed inside and took Kelley into custody at gunpoint.
Kelley told investigators he fled because he was scared.
He had only a learner's permit, authorities said.
