LAPORTE | The La Porte City Band plays Wednesday, July 10 at Fox Park. Arts in the Park provides pre-concert music by Patrick Watterson. Concessions are available. Mary Campbell will display her artwork and Kathy Buckman will perform poetry at 6:45.

The stirring sounds of The Henhouse Prowlers would make anyone believe that so much fun couldn’t be work. This group is a crowd favorite of Arts in the Park and have returned by request. Their style is bluegrass-based but original, toe-tapping, dance inspiring, and contemporary that will cause you to say, “Now that was a show!”

The band was formed by Jon Goldfine and Ben Wright. Goldfine is adept on the bass, electric bass, tuba, and harmonica and enjoyed performing with rock, jazz, and funk ensembles.

The banjo player is Ben Wright. He, as all of the members, had performed with other bands before happily finding a full time home as The Henhouse Prowlers. He was twenty-three before playing a banjo for the first time and has been feverishly playing ever since.

Dan Andree fiddles up a storm. A degree in Ethnomusicology capped a long time love affair with music. He views his part of The Henhouse Prowlers as a great, exciting adventure.

Star Moss is skilled on both electric and acoustic guitar. His musical history lead him from Milwaukee to Chicago to the West Coast and back again playing Celtic, Celtic rock, old-time styles as well as bluegrass.

With three albums and a showing on PBS, this band has made the leap from part-time to industry. Don’t miss them at Arts in the Park this Thursday, July 11 at 7:00 pm at the Dennis Smith Amphitheater.

Preliminaries start at 6:30pm with Patrick Watterson on the keyboard. The artwork of local artist Mary Campbell will be on display. Susan Block, La Porte County Poet Laureate 2009 will read her poetry. Come on out for a really good time.

A word about our sponsors…sponsors are an important part of the Arts in the Park program. They allow a wider variety of high quality bands to perform free of charge to the public. Earlier this month, Jan Klooster and Mr. & Mrs. Tom Church co-sponsored Laura Whidden in memory of John and Audrey Klooster. Giving back to the community is a wonderful way to honor a loved one. This week The Henhouse Prowlers are brought to you by Tri Kappa Associates who will also have concessions available.
