LAPORTE | The Salvation Army of LaPorte is requesting the community to please consider donating items and/or to organize drives, to help with the 2013 “Christmas Assistance Programs.”
Last year 320 families were blessed by this assistance as well as another 80 families who were adopted by others within our community. Plus 460 adults, including seniors, were provided food for a full Christmas dinner including a turkey or a ham!
The Salvation Army is currently taking applications from those that are in need. Applications are available at the Salvation Army until Dec. 6. Through our Toy Shop Program, each family receives at least two Christmas toys per child up to the age of 13 as well as a Christmas Food Basket for the entire family. We are seeking ham and turkey donations that are included in these food baskets.
We are also in need of toys for children age 0 to13 years old. There is always a greater need for toys for the older children ages 10 to 13.
Donations may be dropped off at The Salvation Army of LaPorte, 3240 Monroe St. between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
We would greatly appreciate any winter coats, boots, scarves, gloves, new or slightly used to distribute to those in need within our community. The demands are greater for adult coats, both men and woman. We are also accepting clean blanket donations.
If you would like information about adopting a family this Christmas or if you, your organization, work, school or church are interested in having a Food or Toy drive, please call Jari Troth, LaPorte Salvation Army Christmas Coordinator at (219) 363-9203.
