WESTVILLE | A Hobart man ran from police in Westville and didn't stop until he was Tasered, according to LaPorte County authorities.
William Knies, 38, was booked into the LaPorte County Jail on charges of operating while intoxicated, battery to a police and resisting law enforcement.
During a 12:15 a.m. Sunday traffic stop on U.S. 421, an officer informed Knies he was going to administer a field sobriety test, according to LaPorte County Sheriff's Department.
Investigators said Knies began fighting with the officer and fled on foot through a farm field.
Sheriff's deputies arrived to assist in the foot chase, which advanced to a wooded area near County Road 375 West about a quarter mile from where the pursuit began.
According to authorities, LaPorte County Sheriff's Deputy Andrew Hahn showed up in his squad car and with help from a spotlight saw the man jumping a fence in front of a residence on Samantha Drive.
After Knies kept ignoring orders to stop, Hahn fired his Taser -- striking Knies, who fell to the ground and was handcuffed.
