Charges are being pursued against four men from Michigan City following a night of vandalism with slingshots and paintball guns.
Police said the trail of damage extended from the Michigan City and Westville areas into Porter County.
“It is alarming,” LaPorte County Sheriff's Department Chief of Detectives Pat Cicero said.
According to authorities, officers were alerted by one of the victims about 2:30 a.m. Sunday who resides just east of the Porter County line.
He followed the suspects, until their car was stopped by a Westville police officer.
Investigators said the officer spotted three slingshots in the car along with two paintball guns, several marbles, a large bag containing orange paint balls and several metal ball bearings.
According to police, a receipt also turned up showing 2,000 paint balls and CO2 cartridges to power the paint ball guns were purchased Saturday at a sporting goods store in Michigan City.
Warrants to file charges of mischief are being pursued against the four men, all ages 19 or 20.
Jacob Martin, 19, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana.
The paint balls and marbles from sling shots were fired from a 1999 Oldsmobile driven by one of the 19-year-olds, who told officers the night began shooting paint balls at traffic signs, police said.
About a half dozen properties sustained broken windows to vehicles and residences.
“It was over a several hour period,” Cicero said.
