A now former teacher at South Central High School will spend time behind bars for fondling one of his driver's education students.

Brian Strauss, 41, was sentenced Friday in LaPorte Circuit Court to three years in prison for Class B felony sexual misconduct with a minor.

Under a plea agreement, Strauss must also serve 13 years on probation and participate in a sex offender program aimed at preventing a relapse in such behavior.

According to court documents, Strauss had sexual contact with a then 15-year-old female student during special driving instructions he arranged so they could be alone.

The relationship began in 2008 with online chatting, in which the girl soon at the request of Strauss became naked in front of a web camera.

Strauss later resigned from his teaching position and went on to become principal at South Adams Elementary School in Berne, Ind., about 35 miles south of Fort Wayne.

He left that position after the criminal charges came to light in October of 2012.
