LAPORTE | A 13-year-old LaPorte boy is accused of having a half-pound of marijuana in his school locker.
LaPorte County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Mike Kellems was notified by officials at Kesling Middle School on Friday to help Assistant Principal Mark Fridenmaker with an investigation of an eighth-grade student possibly with marijuana in his locker.
During a search, Kellems said a backpack containing a half-pound of marijuana in a large plastic bag was recovered from the locker.
He was arrested for Class D felony possession of marijuana and transported to the LaPorte County Juvenile Services Center, investigators said.
LaPorte Schools Corp. Assistant Superintendent Mark Francesconi said he could not reveal if any disciplinary action has been taken against the boy.
He did say the boy under school corporation guidelines faces anywhere from suspension to expulsion.
