The LaPorte Community School Corp. has a new person at the helm.
Rande Thorpe was appointed interim superintendent by the School Board Tuesday night.
Thorpe has been the chief financial officer for the district for the past five years.
He takes over for Glade Montgomery, who announced his resignation after two years as superintendent to assume a high ranking position with Project Lead The Way, a group that helps local schools nationwide develop curriculum in high demand areas like engineering, math and science.
Board member Mitch Feikes said Thorpe had high level administrative experience at other school corporations prior to coming to LaPorte and has done an excellent job overseeing the school district’s finances. Feikes said no timeframe has been set in finding a permanent replacement, but speculated Thorpe out of a desire for stability could serve as interim superintendent for the entire upcoming school year.
Feikes also said it could be difficult finding a new superintendent soon with school beginning in about a month.
"Most superintendents that would want to come here are busy trying to get their schools open," said Feikes.
