LAPORTE | Indiana University Health Occupational Services announces the acquisition of Wipperman Occupational Health.
The acquisition, which became effective as of Jan. 1, transfers ownership of the South Bend clinic to IU Health Occupational Services—the state’s largest integrated system of independently managed occupational health clinics.
Medical Director Vickie Wipperman, MD, was thrilled the partnership became official. “I’m so excited to join with IU Health. To have the backing and support of such a large and reputable organization will really help expand our capabilities into new service areas,” she said. “I’m also very excited about the synergy of merging our two organizations. Our patient care philosophies are a perfect match.”
The new IU Health Occupational Services Wipperman Clinic, located at 19567 Cleveland Rd. in South Bend, opened in April 2000. Currently, the clinic employs 16 staff members including two physicians, nurse practitioner and a physician assistant. For the past 13 years, the full-service clinic has successfully provided comprehensive occupational health and wellness programs to a wide range of employers.
Dr. Wipperman, who is board certified in occupational and environmental medicine, has 30 years of experience in healthcare with more than 24 of those years in occupational medicine. She graduated from the IU School of Medicine and later completed her residency in family practice at IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis before moving to South Bend. She worked in emergency medicine, serving as the medical director of a regional urgent care center. Years later, Dr. Wipperman implemented an occupational health program for the local hospital system.
“We are proud and excited to welcome the Wipperman clinic to the IU Health system,” said Mark Savage, director of the Northern Indiana branch of IU Health Occupational Services. “The clinic will be called IU Health Occupational Services Wipperman Clinic. This allows us to keep the Wipperman name, which is widely known and respected in the community, as well as identify with IU Health’s unique brand of nationally recognized healthcare.”
Through the acquisition, transition teams plan to make as few changes to the operation of the clinic as possible. Wipperman’s software will be upgraded to a newer, highly advanced electronic medical record. But contact information, method of billing, staff and management will remain unaffected.
“We assure all of our clients that they will continue working with the same great people they have come to know and trust,” Dr. Wipperman said. “We will continue providing quality occupational health services right here in South Bend, just as we have done for years. But we will now have the resources and expertise to offer additional services such as on-site clinics, ergonomics and a full range of employee wellness programs.”
Dr. Wipperman also mentioned the addition of Brian McKee, IU Health Occupational Services business development specialist, who will be dedicated to working directly with clients and business organizations in South Bend and the surrounding communities.
The Wipperman clinic joins several other regional IU Health Occupational Services locations in La Porte, Michigan City and Valparaiso. With over 20 locations statewide, IU Health Occupational Services provides the local experts and resources to keep employees healthy, productive and on the job.
“We are excited to continue building strong relationships within the South Bend business community,” said Scott Wipperman, clinic operations manager. “We are dedicated to the well-being of our community’s workforce, offering services that foster a safe and healthy work environment.”
