LAPORTE | “The Underground Railroad in LaPorte County” will be presented by Fern Eddy Schultz, LaPorte County historian, at the LaPorte County Historical Society Museum meeting room at 1 p.m. Saturday. This was originally planned for Feb. 9. This will be in conjunction with the celebration of Black History Month. The talk will be illustrated with the showing of photographs, sketches and maps of places believed to have been a part of the operation to assist black slaves to reach safe havens in Free states and Canada. There may have been two major routes through LaPorte County with “conductors” providing assistance to various “stations” along the way. There is no charge for the program but regular museum admission fees will apply.
The museum is at 2405 Indiana Ave., at the south entrance to La Porte. The museum hours are 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. For admission fees and information about the Historical Society and its Museum, visit www.laportecountyhistory.org.
