Funeral services will be held Wednesday for a LaPorte-area man electrocuted on the job in Lake County.

Stephen Lewis, 34, died Friday.

According to the Lake County coroner's office, Lewis was working at a construction site about 1 p.m. in the 7400 block of Taft Street in Merrillville.

The investigation states he was holding a cable attached to a backhoe and the backhoe came into contact with a power line, according to the coroner's office.

Workers told investigators the power line carried 7,200 volts.

According to his obituary, Lewis worked for H & G Plumbing & Heating in LaPorte and was a member of Laborers Union Local No. 645 in South Bend. Survivors include a wife, Jodi, and three daughters.

A celebration of life service is scheduled Wednesday at 11 a.m. CST at Pobocik Funeral Home in Three Oaks, Mich.

Memorial contributions can be made to an education fund for Stephen's children in care of Jodi Lewis.
