LAPORTE COUNTY | Authorities are investigating a man posing as an animal control officer in LaPorte and possibly surrounding counties.
According to police, a Springfield Township woman Monday was approached by a man who stepped out of an unmarked van.
The man said he was an animal control officer and told the woman her donkeys were too fat and that she should separate her male and female ducks.
The woman was also told she had 48 hours to comply or her animals would be taken away.
Reports of a similar imposter in Porter County and maybe Lake County are being looked into, said Jane Bernard, director of LaPorte County Animal Control.
Bernard said a motive was not clear unless he was staking out her property for any animals to steal.
