LaPorte County is being sued by its sheriff, who is alleging contract violations over a reduction in pay.
Sheriff Mike Mollenhauer's 2012 salary was cut to $89,408.
The amount was less than his salary required by law, which is 90 percent of the prosecutor's salary of $114,552.
County officials made up the difference by giving Mollenhauer 10 percent of the proceeds collected from tax warrants.
However, the lawsuit alleges the total salary in 2012 still came to less than the $125,647 the sheriff earned in 2011, an amount the lawsuit alleges was stipulated under contract.
According to the lawsuit, the sheriff with help from tax warrant collections earned $145,000 in 2008.
He then gave up the tax warrant collections for a straight salary equal to 100-percent of the prosecutor's salary.
