LAPORTE | Due to many streets narrowed by large piles of snow, restrictions for parking along curbs are in effect in LaPorte.

People will be required to park on the side of streets with odd-numbered addresses and in front of even numbered addresses on days in the calendar with even numbers.

Mayor Blair Milo said the purpose is to allow plows to clear streets made too narrow from snow piling up along the edges.

Some streets have become too difficult for emergency vehicles and garbage collection trucks to safely pass through, she said.

The restrictions will be in effect for 30 days from 6 a.m. to midnight.

"A lot of the streets are so full of snow when a person parks there it makes it almost less than a one lane road," City Councilman Ron McAtee said.

Warning tickets will be given out to first time violators but tickets carrying fines and vehicles being towed will be handed out to repeat violators, Milo said.
