LAPORTE | A man was wounded during an attack with a machete in LaPorte.

Police Friday night were called to Lady Rose Bar on East Lincolnway where a 45-year-old man had a blood-soaked towel around his hand.

Police said the suspect, Brian Van Schoyck, 58, came into the bar threatening people with num chucks.

The victim and other bar patrons walked his girlfriend home because she was scared and that's where Van Schoyck allegedly pulled out a machete and began swinging it at the man, who was cut badly on his thumb trying to defend himself against the weapon.

Van Schoyck was arrested and charged with battery, police said.
