LAPORTE | Charges are being pursued against a man who allegedly stood naked at a park in LaPorte and led them on a pursuit.
A warrant is being sought to charge a 58-year-old New Carlisle man with Class A misdemeanor public indecency, according to LaPorte police.
Police were called about 6 p.m. Friday to Soldiers Memorial Park by a 31-year-old man who encountered the suspect along the shore of the channel between Pine Lake and Stone Lake.
The suspect was fully clothed when he and the man initially struck up a conversation.
The suspect crossed a foot bridge to the other side of the channel when the man heard the suspect say, "hey look over here."
According to police, the man looked and saw the suspect standing along the water's edge completely naked.
After the victim announced he was calling the police, the suspect put his clothes back on and drove off in a van, police said. An officer spotted the van and after a short pursuit, the officer stopped it outside a boat launch in the 500 block of Waverly Road.
The suspect told police he removed his clothes because he thought the man was "interested in getting together."
LaPorte Police Chief of Detectives Tom Thate said the case is in the hands of prosecutors who will decide if formal charges will be filed.
