LaPorte woman charged in gunfire incident
LAPORTE | A LaPorte woman has been charged in connection with gunfire that came close to striking a man pumping gasoline.
Jamie Maupin, 34, was arraigned Wednesday in LaPorte Circuit Court on a felony charge of criminal recklessness.
According to court records, police responded about 7 a.m. Jan. 26 to the BP station at Lincolnway and Tyler Street.
A man pumping gas into his pickup truck said he heard "three to four loud pops" then noticed the Dodge Ram emblem on the hood was broken and a small hole penetrating into the engine compartment.
Police responded to a house next door in the 1200 block of Jefferson Avenue and learned Maupin shot a .22-caliber handgun out an upstairs bedroom window.
She said she and her husband are in the process of getting divorced and were arguing when she fired the shots, according to police.
