LAPORTE | Lt. Gov. Sue Ellspermann was in LaPorte Tuesday to help christen the city's new downtown revitalization strategy.
Ellspermann attended a 3 p.m. ribbon cutting to recognize downtown LaPorte as an Indiana Main Street Community.
The city just this year formed a main street association consisting of downtown business owners working cooperatively with the goal of drawing more people to the downtown.
Tiffany Bley, the city's downtown director, said being part of the state main street organization does not provide any funding.
However, she said, it provides is a connection with officials in more than 100 Indiana cities in the group, which can share ideas and experiences with downtown revitalization projects.
"I get to network with other downtowns on a regular basis," Bley said.
