LAPORTE COUNTY | A proposal for an adult entertainment establishment near Michigan City is coming back up for consideration.

Chicago area businessman John Burys, who wants to build a so-called gentlemen's club at U.S. 35 and U.S. 20, is scheduled to go before the LaPorte County Board of Zoning Appeals at 6 p.m. Sept. 17.

The request comes nearly a year after the county delayed taking action on the proposal because they were in the process of crafting an ordinance restricting where those type of establishments can go and how they operate.

Burys' attorney Dave Ambers said the ordinance governing adult establishments is now in place.

Originally, the board in 2011 voted against the strip club when it was proposed for a site on U.S. 421 and LaPorte County Road 30 North, south of Michigan City.

Ambers said the ordinance in place at the time banned strip clubs, which was later ruled unconstitutional. That triggered the creation of the new ordinance now in place.

"We'll see how the board votes," said Ambers.
