LAPORTE | On Saturday, August 10 at 1:00 p.m., the 2nd Annual Memorial Gardens Cemetery Tour will be held on the grounds of the La Porte County Historical Society Museum. This is located at 2405 Indiana Avenue (US#35) at the south entrance to La Porte. Regular museum admission fees will be charged which includes admission that day to the museum following the tour. In the event of rain, the tour will be conducted in the meeting room in the museum. A handout will be provided to include information about the six ladies being depicted who are “residents” of La Porte County cemeteries. All have played an important part in the history of La Porte County. Six local individuals will represent these “residents.” They will offer as a first-person presentation biographical information about these individuals—interesting facts about the life and activities of each at a specific time in their lives. Tour information has been researched and compiled by Fern Eddy Schultz, La Porte County Historian, who will be the tour guide, introducing each “resident” and providing additional historical and biographical information. Those being portrayed are Araminta Clyburn Armitage (Katy Gartland), Grace Elizabeth Kenny Floering (Sandy Gleim), Esther Leona Hornbeck Luhr (Bonnie Quigley), Evelyn Nordyke (Susie Richter), Anne E. Sanborn (Jean Burns) and Emma Zieke (Michaelene Ziembo). Perhaps you have heard these names and this is an opportunity to become acquainted with them through these portrayals. Regular museum hours are from Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m... It is handicapped accessible.
