LAPORTE | Maureen Panares, DNP, and Alissa Whittaker, RN, MSN, FNP-BC, have joined IU Health La Porte Physicians and are now seeing patients in several northern Indiana communities. These highly skilled advanced practice nurses enhance the level of care provided to patients, and reinforce Indiana University Health’s commitment to offering the highest level of quality care in the community.

Panares is an Advanced Practice Nurse with a Doctor of Nursing Practice in Family and Community Health from Rush University. She completed her Associate and Bachelor of Science degrees in nursing from Purdue University Calumet. Panares comes to IU Health having worked as the Director of the Student Health Center and the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Health/Wellness at Purdue University Calumet. In addition to overseeing the student health center, she assessed, diagnosed and treated a diverse student population ages 18-60. She also has provided primary care in a private practice encompassing patients ages 2-90+. Panares has served an important role in the community in many ways, including volunteering and guest lecturing. Most recently, she was a guest lecturer and adjunct faculty member for Infectious Disease content of the Advanced Practice Degree at Purdue University Calumet.

Whittaker recently received a Master of Science in nursing from Indiana University South Bend, where she also earned a Bachelor of Science in nursing, and a Bachelor of Arts in general studies with a concentration in social and behavioral sciences. She minored in psychology and business administration. Whitaker has cared for patients at South Bend area hospitals in the Emergency Departments and Intermediate Care Centers. She has worked as a Unit Practice Council Chair, and as a clinical associate in orthopedic and neurosurgery as well. Whittaker is certified through the American Nurses Credentialing Center, and holds certifications in basic life support for healthcare providers, advanced cardiovascular life support, pediatric advanced life support, and the National Institute of Health Stroke Scale.

Whittaker sees patients in Plymouth at Lifeplex, 2855 Miller Dr., Suite 117, and in Walkterton at 506 Michigan St. Call 574-936-7777 to make an appointment.
