Police believe a large-scale cocaine distribution ring in LaPorte County was disrupted with the arrests of five alleged members.
Leonard Campos, 41; Richard Ruiz, 34; Oscar Arzate, 24; Juan Gallardo, 28; and Zacharias Cisneros, 26, were taken into custody last week, according to LaPorte County police.
The men, all from LaPorte, were held on federal indictments involving the alleged manufacture, distribution and possession of cocaine.
“I would say they had substantial involvement in a large amount of drugs being moved in the LaPorte area,” said LaPorte County police Maj. John Boyd.
Boyd would not disclose specifics of the men's alleged drug activities because the case is still pending in federal court.
He did say agents with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and other jurisdictions were called in to assist because of the “magnitude and scope” of the distribution ring.
“We just felt we needed to bring in other assets as well,” Boyd said.
