LAPORTE | A LaPorte man who previously spent time in prison for fatally shooting a wife is back in jail accused of slaying another.

Joseph Jemiolo, 60, is being held in the LaPorte County Jail on a preliminary charge of murder.

According to police, officers responding to a burglary in progress call about 12:30 a.m. apprehended Jemiolo coming out of his home in the 800 block of E Street.

Kathy Jemiolo, 48, was pronounced dead inside the white two-story house in a quiet neighborhood across from Kiwanis Field.

LaPorte Police Chief of Detectives Tom Thate said it appears Kathy Jemiolo might have succumbed to a physical beating.

Jemiolo served 10 years in prison for voluntary manslaughter in connection with the shooting death of Nancy Jemiolo in 1978 outside the couple's home on Silverbrook Avenue on LaPorte's southeast side.
