LAPORTE | In an effort to raise funds for charities, the LaPorte Fire Department, in collaboration with the city water department, will be offering a service to residents with pools.

As the season nears and residents begin to get their pools out, the department will be offering to fill up the pools. The water will be metered and charged in accordance with the water departments rates and is approximately $3 per thousand gallons.

The fire department will be accepting donations that will go directly to the music fest fund that will in turn be 100% used for scholarship fund, Hoosier Burn Fund, Red Cross and other charities. For smaller jobs (pools), a minimum of $50 donation would be appreciated for time and labor and is in addition to the water department charge.

Here is a breakdown of the program:

• All of this is done by LPFD members, off duty, volunteering their time

• 100% of the donation, except the charge for water, goes towards charities

• Water costs are slightly under $3 per 1,000 gallons

• For smaller pools, a minimum $50 donation is requested

• For bigger jobs (long hose lays and bigger pools), a minimum $100 donation is requested

• The department reserves the right to deny a request based on a number of different factors, which will be mentioned if denied

• A waiver form must be signed, not to hold the City, LPFD, or any individuals liable for any damages or water quality

• Cash and Credit Cards only will be accepted

• Requests will be considered by online application only. Do not call the station! Department officials will contact participants after the form has been submitted to set up a date and time.
