LAPORTE | A royal addition is premiering at the 2014 LaPorte County Fair.
Fair staff members are seeking applicants for the first queen contest held in conjunction with the Indiana State Fair Queen Pageant.
Queen contest superintendent Kelsey Hanthorne said while the Horse and Pony Club used to have a queen contest there has not been a fair-wide queen to preside over festivities.
“We have thought for a few years this would be a great addition to the fair, seeing girls head to neighboring counties to compete, and once we heard the fair board was in agreement, we jumped on the opportunity,” she said.
The contest is open to ladies ages 18 to 21 who live in LaPorte County. Applications are due by May 5. More information, including rules, regulations and expectations, are available at the fair Web site www.laportecountyfair.org.
“The contest is open to non-4-H members so this will give all girls ages 18 to 21 and their families an opportunity to participate in the great tradition of the county fair,” said Hanthorne.
While preliminary judging is closed to the public, the contest will be open to community members on July 5, with more details to be announced. The LaPorte County Fair runs July 6 through 12 at the LaPorte County Fairgrounds, 2581 W. State Road 2.
