LAPORTE | As the 12th Annual Tour de La Porte (TdL) sponsored by the IU Health La Porte Hospital Foundation approaches on August 24 and 25, SAG stops for the distance cycling event on August 25 have been finalized. SAG stops provide a place for cyclists to rest along the route and meet other riders while enjoying what that SAG has to offer. Routes for the event are 5, 15, 25, 40, 60 and 100 miles.
There are six SAG stops spaced out along the 100 mile TdL distance cycling route. Sponsors for the stops are Larry Noel and friends at New Carlisle Park, La Lumiere School, Michiana Hematology Oncology, Ed Wedow and at Custom Made Sculptures, Door Village United Methodist Church and Spire Farm to Fork. Each sponsor is providing their own volunteers as well as unique food and entertainment options.
TdL Cycling Subcommittee Chair and IU Health La Porte Hospital colleague Brendon Scott stated that the 2013 cycling routes have been redesigned to highlight the best scenery La Porte County has to offer. Brendon adds, “the ride hopes to provide a challenging ride for experienced cyclists and a fun ride for novice cyclists.”
“The goal with each SAG stop is to create an event within an event that feels more like a destination rather than just a place along the route to get some food,” said Scott. “Each SAG stop will feature a variety of food selections and entertainment, most of which will be live music.”
All SAGs will have an assortment of refreshments including fresh fruit, granola bars, cookies and beverages. Food from Al’s will be provided at New Carlisle Park, Jimmy Johns at Custom Made Sculptures, homemade goodies from church members at Door Village United Methodist Church and Spire Farm to Fork will have samples of their offerings.
Entertainment along the route features many local bands and singers. KG Karaoke, Bruce Chronister and Danielle Contreras, Dan Moser, Door Village United Methodist Church members, Greek Tragedy and Sam and Lana Cook will be positioned at the various SAG stops. James Neary and The Saucy Birds will also perform at Cummings Lodge to welcome cyclists back from their rides during the afternoon.
