LAPORTE | The second annual Memorial Gardens Cemetery Tour will be at 1 p.m. Aug. 10 on the grounds of the LaPorte County Historical Society Museum, 2405 Indiana Ave.
Regular museum admission fees will be charged which includes admission that day to the museum following the tour. In the event of rain, the tour will be conducted in the meeting room in the museum.
A handout will be provided to include information about the six ladies being depicted who are “residents” of La Porte County cemeteries. All have played an important part in the county's history.
Six local individuals will represent these “residents.” They will offer as a first-person presentation biographical information about these individuals — interesting facts about the life and activities of each at a specific time in their lives. Tour information has been researched and compiled by Fern Eddy Schultz, La Porte County historian, who will be the tour guide, introducing each “resident” and providing additional historical and biographical information.
Those being portrayed are Araminta Clyburn Armitage (Katy Gartland), Grace Elizabeth Kenny Floering (Sandy Gleim), Esther Leona Hornbeck Luhr (Bonnie Quigley), Evelyn Nordyke (Susie Richter), Anne E. Sanborn (Jean Burns) and Emma Zieke (Michaelene Ziembo).
Regular museum hours are from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Visit www.laportecountyhistory.org, e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org or call (219) 324-6767 or (219) 326-6458.
