LAPORTE | Organizers are hoping for more than 300 runners, walkers, families and volunteers supporting Harmony House/CASA Program of La Porte County, Inc. from the community

WHEN: 8/17/2013, registration 7:30 – 8:45 AM, Kids FunRun begins at 9 AM with 5K race immediately following

WHERE: St. John’s Lutheran School parking lot located at 111 Kingsbury Avenue, La Porte, IN. The Kids FunRun will be held in the school yard. The 5K chip timed race begins in the school parking lot, proceeding west on Kingsbury, turning south on Michigan Avenue past Beechwood golf course, turning north on Michigan Avenue to the Harmony House turn around and back to St. John’s School.

WHAT: Harmony House/CASA Program of La Porte County, Inc. invites the community to participate in their inaugural CASA Superhero 5K Walk/Run sponsored by Anytime Fitness, Grand Rental Station, IU Health La Porte Hospital, PKR Endodontics, Sauer’s Automotive and St. John’s Lutheran School. This event will increase awareness of CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates®), recruit more volunteer advocates and raise needed funds to support advocacy for local children’s rights. Proceeds from the race will directly help Harmony House/CASA recruit and train CASA volunteers to give a voice to abused and neglected children in court and the foster care system.

―”The Harmony House/ CASA Program has been serving the children of your community since1991. Last year, 63 volunteer advocates served 144 abused and neglected children and your support of this event will help serve even more children this year,” said Karen Biernacki, Executive Director.

CASA volunteers gain a firm understanding of a child‘s case and serve as impartial eyes and ears to a judge. They bring a strong voice and a helping heart to find each child a safe, permanent home as quickly as possible.

― “While every child needs a hero, abused and neglected children need superheroes,” said Biernacki.

Families are encouraged to participate with their children by walking, pushing strollers, jogging or running the chip timed 5K together or participating in the Kids FunRun at 9 AM. The festivities will include a variety of family friendly activities, including free face painting, a bounce house and more. A costume contest with guest judges will add to the superhero fun. Come dressed as your favorite superhero and join friends of CASA for this fun, family friendly event. Run for a cause and be a SUPERHERO for a local child that needs your help!

REGISTER: The cost of the run is $20 adult, $10 children 6 – 18, under 5 are free, if registered before 7/26/2013. An additional $5 fee is added after that date, per person.
