LAPORTE | Mike Sitar, owner of Temple News Agency for the past 18 years, has announced that he is ready to turn over the reins of the long time coffee house-old fashioned ice cream parlor/soda fountain to new leadership. Temple, known to many as a LaPorte institution, fills a unique niche as an independent small multifaceted business in the midst of corporate-owned entities. Long known for its gourmet coffees, espresso bar and ice cream soda fountain, they've added a vast collection of used books to further meet the needs of their customers.

Sitar has decided to seek a new owner who will add new ideas while maintaining the traditional feel of the shop as he moves toward retirement. "Businesses like this one won't come again and it's important to keep them alive to continue their spirit for future generations" says Sitar. Some of that spirit is evidenced by the 1948 soda fountain and some original cabinetry and fixtures along with memorabilia from decades past. The shop resides in spaces within the historic Masonic Temple on Jefferson Avenue in downtown LaPorte.
