LA PORTE | The LaPorte institution, Temple News Agency welcomes new owners Joe and Haley Whicker on October 1st 2013. The 95 year old icon has served generations of locals and visitors, boasting gourmet coffees, espresso bar, LaPorte’s only operating old-fashioned soda fountain, a vast selection of used books, whole bean coffees, South Bend Chocolates and live music. Local history adorns the walls and many products are displayed on vintage furniture and cabinets.
Both Joe and Hailey are lifelong LaPorte residents, Joe being a graduate of LaPorte High School and Haley of La Lumiere Academy. They have two daughters. They say they are a family that wants their children to grow up with Temple and invite everyone to bring their children in to also experience the legacy that has been Temple News for generations. Their plan is “business as usual”: coffee, ice cream, and the great service people are used to, with an eye toward the future including more favorites along with new products.
Joe and Haley are excited to take over the reins and say that they couldn’t have the great opportunity to serve the community and continue the fantastic service Temple has provided for 95 years without Mike Sitar and the support of their families and friends.
As the evolution of Temple News continues under the new leadership of Joe & Haley Whicker, all are invited to participate in the journey.
