LAPORTE | A nearly sold out crowd braves the snowy weather to attend the 19th Annual La Porte Hospital Foundation Holiday at the POPS concert. More than 1,700 attendees rang in the holidays with song and philanthropy. Hailed by supporters of the Foundation as the go-to local event of this festive season; Holiday at the POPS continues year after year to be the La Porte Christmas tradition for all ages.
Holiday at the POPS Committee Co-Chair Elizabeth Dekker said, “We are thrilled that POPS has once again brought the spirit of giving to the community. On behalf of the Foundation, I want to thank those community members who supported this event and attended with their families.”
The Foundation is proud to feature local talent by contracting the La Porte County Symphony Orchestra, directed by Philip Bauman and La Porte County Symphony Orchestra’s Chorus, Illumination. The symphony also invited special guest performer Sarah Gartshore to perform at the event.
Featured artists included the vocal ensemble Cripple Creek, performed several selections with their signature country and gospel influence. All members—Dr. John Langford, David Applegarth, Mitch Marhanka and Lou Voelker—live in the Door Village area of La Porte County and share close ties to the hospital and Foundation.
Additionally, vocalist Shania Povlock joined the concert, singing a beautiful rendition of Angels Among Us. Shania was joined by members of the La Porte County Symphony Orchestra’s Children’s Chorus, directed by Matthew Nelson. Shania is also closely connected to the hospital and Foundation, as her mother is both a colleague of IU Health La Porte Hospital but also a member of The Foundation.
All proceeds of the event benefited the Foundation’s VNA Fund, which supports IU Health La Porte VNA Services, and other vital philanthropic healthcare needs in the community.
IU Health La Porte VNA Services offers compassionate support within the comfort of one’s home, provided by highly trained individuals. Private duty and skilled homecare allows individuals to recuperate at home or in an assisted living residence instead of a long hospital stay or nursing home. Through Hospice, IU Health La Porte VNA Services provides end-of-life care to individuals at home or in a nursing home. Nurses are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week in Jasper, La Porte, Marshall, Porter, Pulaski, Starke and St. Joseph counties. IU Health La Porte VNA Services accepts Medicare, Medicaid and private insurance.
In addition, attendees donated numerous new stuffed animals and books to be shared with the pediatric patients and young visitors of IU Health La Porte Hospital.
