LA PORTE | LaPorte County Parks Department and the LaPorte County Small Animal Shelter have joined forces to host the third annual Pet Fest in the Park from Wags to Whiskers from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at Luhr County Park, 3178 S. County Road 150 West on Aug. 17. This event is free to the public and will take place rain or shine.
New this year, the animal shelter will offer pet micro-chipping for $25 for a lifetime registration, said Jane Bernard, director of the LaPorte County Small Animal Shelter.
“Our vision to host this event is to bring out animal-related businesses to share their expertise with the public and their animals, in addition to bringing out the public with their animals (all on leashes) to visit each booth," Bernard said. "Is your pet itching to go for a walk in the park? Then you are bound to have a ruff-ruff bark of a good time!"
The LaPorte County Small Animal Shelter, along with many other vendors, will have stations set-up along the trail with goodies. Each vendor will have something animal-related. Demonstrations, a pet costume contest and pet trick contest, pet photography, a silent auction and adopt-a-new-pet information will be featured. Bring a donation to help the LaPorte County Dog Pantry.
"This is a great chance to meet and socialize with other pet lovers," said Laura Moyer, LaPorte County Parks Recreation and Education programmer. "As you stroll along the vendors be sure to fill out a sheet for a chance to win prizes at each booth."
All animals must be on a leash at all times and 'oops' bags will be provided. Aggressive or female animals in heat are not allowed.
