LAPORTE | Ben Tonagel is going back home to become the next principal at LaPorte High School.
Tonagel, currently principal at Fairfield Jr./Sr. High School in Goshen, is a 1997 graduate of LaPorte High School and former standout on the boys basketball team.
He will replace Greg Handel who is retiring at the end of the school year after 24 years as the high school principal.
School Board President Mark Kosior said Tonagel emerged from the work of a selection committee.
Tonagel's brother Greg is a former point guard for Valparaiso University and currently the men's basketball head coach at Indiana Wesleyan University.
