LAPORTE COUNTY | A truck pulling a combine had a very close call with a freight train that clipped the back end of the semi trailer west of LaPorte.
About 10:30 a.m., officers responded to the Norfolk Southern crossing on 500 West in Pinola.
La Porte County Sheriff Mike Mollenhauer said the driver explained he was crossing the tracks pulling the combine when the gates began coming down.
The driver said the westbound train clipped only a bar sticking out from the back of the trailer.
“It just caught that. It didn't hurt the combine head at all. Damage was very minimal,” said Mollenhauer.
There were no injuries.
