LAPORTE COUNTY | Two teenagers who broke into a home in Fulton County were arrested Thursday following a vehicle and foot chase in Wanatah.
LaPorte County Sheriff's deputy Jim Maxwell tried stopping a pickup truck for speeding on U.S. 421 just south of Wanatah just before 7:30 a.m..
Police said that triggered a short vehicle pursuit into the town through several fields and along a railroad right of way.
The vehicle was abandoned in the area of Main Street and 2nd Street and the suspects took off running in separation directions but they were soon apprehended.
''They weren't familiar with the area which worked to our benefit,'' said LaPorte County Police Detective Andy Hynek.
Hynek said numerous long guns and electronic items stolen were recovered from the vehicle, which also had been taken.
Kyle Smith, 18, and a 17-year-old male, both from the Rochester area, were booked into the LaPorte County Jail on charges of possession of stolen property and resisting law enforcement.
