LAPORTE | A Westville woman could face decades in prison on allegations she committed a sex crime.
Angela Woodard is charged in LaPorte Circuit Court with Class A felony child molesting and Class B felony incest.
Woodard, 29, was charged in April 2012, but authorities were unable to locate and serve her with an arrest warrant until Wednesday.
That's when authorities in Porter County gave notice they were holding Woodard after the active warrant turned up during a records check.
"We finally caught up to her," said LaPorte County Prosecutor Bob Szilagyi.
It's alleged the woman took part in sexual activity with the victim on or between March 1, 2012, and the end of April that year.
According to court documents, a Westville police investigation was triggered when the child revealed the alleged sexual abuse during a therapy session with a Valparaiso-based counseling provider.
The child molesting charge carries a potential 20 to 50 year sentence while the other count is punishable by a 6 to 20 year term.
Porter County Sheriff's Department spokesman Sgt. Larry LaFlower said Woodard was arrested in July of 2012 in Porter County on a charge of sexual misconduct with a minor.
According to court documents, she was convicted in August on an amended charge of child neglect and given a three year prison sentence.
Woodard has retained Larry Rogers of Valparaiso to defend her against the latest allegations.
An omnibus hearing for April 4 was scheduled in the case.
LaPorte County Jail commander Mike Kellems said Woodard was still being held Monday on $15,000 bond.
