The wife of the former LaPorte Community School Corp. superintendent also is charged with a gambling-related crime in Mississippi.
Virginia Thorpe, 58, and her husband, Rande, both were booked into the Tunica County Jail on Nov. 22 on "gaming violation."
Authorities at the jail said Monday they were held only for a short time before posting $15,000 bond.
The School Board accepted Thorpe's request to retire two days prior to his arrest.
It's alleged that he manipulated a slot machine for more than $60,000 from a Harris Casino in the northwest part of Mississippi, according court documents.
What role his wife allegedly played in the theft and further specifics on the allegations were not released.
Thorpe was the interim superintendent since last summer and was a top candidate to be chosen for the position on a permanent basis when he retired.
