Wrong inmate released from LaPorte County Jail custody
LAPORTE | Another inmate mistakenly released from the LaPorte County Jail could result in further disciplinary action.
"It's inexcusable," LaPorte County Sheriff Mike Mollenhauer said.
Johnny Kirkwood was released when another offender with the same last name should have been let out instead.
Apparently, Mollenhauer said Kirkwood received a ride to Michigan City and was located about one hour later in a yard on Woodland Avenue near his home.
All offenders wear name tags and at least one jail officer must have not paid close enough attention to Kirkwood's identification prior to his release, Mollenhauer said.
In January, another offender was let out when he claimed to be an inmate whose bond had been posted.
Mollenhauer said disciplinary action was given out in that case and expects the same outcome with the most recent incident.
