A LaPorte bank robber will get help for his heroin addiction while in prison.
Ryan Mounts, 32, was given an eight year prison sentence Friday in LaPorte Circuit Court for the late December robbery of Fifth Third Bank in the 800 block of Monroe Street and theft of $2,500 in cash from the register at Maple City Sports at 718 Lincolnway.
Mounts previously begged the court to provide help for a longtime heroin addiction.
As part of the sentence, the court will recommend Mounts undergo intensive drug treatment while incarcerated.
Mounts took $1,700 from the bank and police followed footprints in the snow and located him inside his nearby apartment.
