Delivery driver charged with trafficking in phones at Westville prison

WESTVILLE | A truck driver making a delivery to the Westville Correctional Facility was charged with trafficking there Friday morning, officials said.

Officials there searched a truck being driven by Dario Sanchez, 37, of Chicago, and found contraband cellular phones inside the cab, a news release issued by the the prison states.

Sanchez was transported to LaPorte County Jail after his arrest.

Officials at the prison singled out inmate Arturo Camarena, 35, for questioning by the Internal Affairs Division after Sanchez's arrest, the release states. Camarena is from Mexico and has a detainer from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.

A detainer identifies people who potentially could be deported and who are housed in jails or prisons.

Camarena is serving a 20-year sentence for dealing in cocaine out of Shelby County. He was scheduled to be released in August 2013.

"I commend our staff for the diligent manner in which they perform their duties," Westville Correctional Facility Superintendent Mark Levenhagen said in a statement. "They are our front line of defense in maintaining security within our facility."
