HAMLET | A man suspecting his neighbor was operating a meth lab called LaPorte County Police, who soon made two arrests.

Richard Maynard, 49, was taken into custody for possession of methamphetamine and possession of a controlled substance along with other counts.

Officers Wednesday went to 0444 W. 1500 South near Hamlet and detected a strong chemical odor from the garage. Maynard left in a vehicle and after veering into the opposite lane several times was pulled over and found with methamphetamine, marijuana and prescription pills, said police.

A passenger, Christina Riegle, 38, was arrested on similar counts, said police. Police said the odor smelled like ether, a common ingredient in the manufacture of meth.
