LAPORTE | A tow truck had to be called after two oncoming vehicles collided Wednesday north of LaPorte because of a duck.

Just after 6 a.m., LaPorte County Police were called to the Hesston area near County Road 1000 North.

Michael Crakes told police a large duck flew in front of his 1998 Ford Windstar. He tried avoiding the duck by swerving, but wound up in the opposite lane striking a car driven by Robert Rowles of Michigan City.

Crakes, 59, who lives near Three Oaks, Mich., and Rowles were not injured. The 1998 Dodge Intrepid driven by Rowles had to be towed away.

The duck was found deceased in the roadway, said police.
