MICHIGAN CITY | The City of Michigan City, Refuse Department will conduct its Annual Spring Clean-Up starting March 25. The Refuse Department is requesting that all residents separate their debris into the following three categories:
1. Brush, limbs, shrubs, yard waste and unpainted concrete. (no black top)
2. Rugs, lumber, furniture and building materials of all sorts.
3. All tires rimmed or derimmed can be placed out for pick up with white goods such as stoves, refrigerator, air conditioners, water tanks, dehumidifiers etc.
Residents may use curbside or alleys to put out their debris. The clean-up process is divided into three (3) areas and the pick-up for each area will be the same days as your normal refuse pick up day.
THE DATES FOR YOUR AREA PICK-UP WILL BE AS FOLLOWS:
AREA 1: MARCH 25-29 REPEATED APRIL 15-19
AREA 2: APRIL 1-5 REPEATED APRIL 22-26
AREA 3: APRIL 8-12 REPEATED APRIL 29-MAY 3
COMPOST INFORMATION
Compost pick-ups will begin Monday, May 6 and will continue until Friday, November 22. You may use your garbage cans, cardboard boxes and/or paper bags. NO PLASTIC BAGS may be used for compost pick-ups, in addition, NO COMPOST IN REFUSE TOTER’S. All compost pick-ups must be placed out on the curbside for removal and will not be picked up or removed from alleys. The resident will be responsible for getting their compost to the street. Listed below are the schedules for the regular trash pick-up and the corresponding pick up day for the composting materials only.

Area 2 is marked by Franklin Street on the west, Michigan Boulevard and Roeske Avenue on the east and Second Street on the north.
AREA 3
APRIL 8-12 & ARPIL 29-MAY 3
Area 3 is marked by Lake Shore Drive and U.S. 12 and Shoreland Drive on the north, Michigan Boulevard on the west and Meer Road on the east.
