MICHIGAN CITY | Mayor Ron Meer has proclaimed the month of April as “The Month of the Military Child” in Michigan City.

“Each day when we wake up, we should think about and give thanks to all of our military men and women who are serving to protect our lives and our freedoms; while at the same time thinking about the sacrifices and the lives they have had to leave behind; mainly their children.”

Children of our brave men and women serving in the United States military face challenges and stresses presented by frequent moves, parental deployments, and other life transitions. In a way, military children “serve our country” right alongside their parents.

On April 15, Mayor Meer is asking city residents to “purple up.”

“Wearing something purple is a small way that each of us can show recognition and support for our military children. A strong community of involved citizens, adults, teachers, and care-takers can provide the positive mentoring and guidance that is necessary to the well being and positive development of military children.”
