MICHIGAN CITY | It didn’t take long for a correctional officer at Indiana State Prison to start smuggling marijuana.

That’s according to officials at the Indiana Department of Corrections, who said Marcus Crenshaw, 27, is charged with trafficking with an inmate.

The Class C felony offense could bring the Chicago man a 2-8 year sentence.

According to DOC officials, Crenshaw was caught with 348 grams of marijuana when he reported for work last week at the prison in Michigan City.

Officials said he was placed on emergency suspension from his duties without pay.

Crenshaw was hired at the prison in April, officials said.

The incident is currently under investigation by the facility’s Internal Affairs Department to determine what charges or internal disciplinary action may be taken with any offenders allegedly involved, officials said.
