LAPORTE COUNTY | A Michigan City area man could face jail time after his dog was found Sunday choked to death on a leash wrapped around the legs of a table.
A warrant is being sought to charge the owner with Class A misdemeanor neglect of an animal, according to LaPorte County Police.
Police said officers responding to a complaint at the man's home in the 3000 block W. North Garden Circle found a dog in the yard deceased.
Police said the metal leash was wrapped so many times around the legs of an outdoor table and so tightly around the legs bolt cutters had to be used to free the animal from the legs of the table, police said.
The owner told officers he left the dog on the leash when he and his girlfriend went out Saturday night, police said.
Police said they didn't return until the next day after spending the night at a friend's house.
According to police, there was no dog house or any form of shelter for the dog.
Lemons was also cited for not having the dog current on its vaccinations or having it properly licensed, police said.
